Halifax Harbour

Like embers in a fire, water and the activity of the ships below draw your eye to the harbour - a bird's eye view from a mobile studio on Citadel Hill. Buildings may be static, but the water, never. Primary colours of red, yellow and blue called out from the dockyard - bridges, docks, ships and cranes - a toy box of monumental size. Landmarks

Landmarks, Nova Scotia Paintings is a series of seven large scale paintings based on the natural and social history of Nova Scotia. This collaborative work of father and son artists Brian and Jimy Sloan explores geographic elements and interpersonal relationships within our province. Our work began in conversations about surface, line and colour. We began a record of our findings using raw unstretched canvas and a found palette. The rich intertidal zone where the land and sea meet the sky became afocal point for the shared happiness and sorrow, strength and resilience we found there. August 2016 - Brian and Jimy Sloan
